Dr. Michael T. McCarney was born and raised in Spencer,
Iowa. Spencer is in the northwest corner of Iowa near where the borders of
Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota come together. After high school
graduation in 1987, Dr. McCarney attended Mankato State University in
Mankato, Minnesota for two and one-half years. It was while attending
Mankato State that Dr. McCarney first experienced the wonders of
Chiropractic.
"I had experienced back pain since 11th grade in high school after an injury
while at football practice. The treatment recommended was ice, rest and
stretching. The football coach's attitude was to "tough it out". The pain
subsided with decreased activity, but the problem persisted. In my first
year of college I decided to try out for the college golf team. This time
the pain came back and stayed. Pain prevented me from any activity that
required twisting and turning. This is where the "wonders" of Chiropractic
happened. After I completed my initial intensive care, I felt no back pain
for the first time in two years. The rest is history. I was off to
Chiropractic College!"
Dr. McCarney moved to Davenport, Iowa to attend pre-Chiropractic courses at
Scott Community College and started
Palmer Chiropractic University in July
of 1991. After graduation in 1995, Dr. McCarney interned with Drs. Elizabeth Kressin and Rex Jones of Spencer, Iowa. Drs. Kressin and Jones are prominent
Chiropractors who are well recognized within the Chiropractic Community. Dr.
Kressin serves on the Chiropractic Board in Iowa as appointed by the
Governor. Dr. Jones serves on many committess and is very active within a
major national Chiropractic management organization. Dr. McCarney gained
much insight through his experiences with Drs. Kressin and Jones.

By spring of 1996, Dr. McCarney moved to Chesterfield County Virginia where
he started Chiropractic Centers of Virginia at the Victorian Square Shopping
Center. From those humble beginnings Chiropractic Centers of Virginia has
grown to three office locations. In addition to the Chesterfield office,
West End and Mechanicsville offices opened within the next 6 years. And Dr.
McCarney's vision does not stop here. Many more offices are slated to open
in the near future!
"My philosophy is to treat patients as if they were my family members. I
believe that patients should be treated with the respect of timely
appointments and clear explanations of treatments and treatment options
combined with accurate and accountable record keeping. I pledge to give each
patient the very best Chiropractic experience that I possibly can."
