Hi I’m Jessica Searson, I have been working alongside Dr. Williamson at the Bell Creek office since March of 2010. I can’t believe it’s been that long already. I have been in the Massage Industry for almost 3 years now. I graduated from Fortis College with my degree in Massage Therapy & Bodywork and then received my National Certification and my license from the Commonwealth of Virginia to practice as a Massage Therapist, giving me my title of Certified Massage Therapist, or CMT. It’s funny to think that a few short years ago I was on my way to becoming a high school English teacher!
After I graduated from Varina High School in June of 2007, I started classes at J Sergeant Reynolds’s Community College in August of 2007 to begin working towards my degree in Liberal Arts. I wanted to be a high school English teacher but while I was in school unfortunately my mother was involved in a car accident. She got whiplash from it and was actually treated by Dr. Will for her condition and that really helped her, but she was also encouraged to see a massage therapist. I had no real experience with Massage Therapy at the time, and I was trying to figure out how just relaxing was going to help her neck function the way it used to. But after a couple short months, she regained her full range of motion in her neck. I thought to myself, “wow!” I want to be able to do that; I want to be able to help people regain the function of their bodies they used to have.
So I said, “so long” to my English classes for now, and I enrolled and started classes at Fortis College within a month. I studied under Tracey Walker, CMT, and received the best education and many hours of hands-on work. While I was in school I decided that I would ultimately like to work in a day spa setting after I graduated. Luckily I was accepted for a position as the full-time Massage Therapist at a day spa in Carytown and I started the day after I graduated from Fortis! It was nice for a while, but I decided after about a year, it wasn’t exactly what I wanted out of my massage business. I wanted to work with my clients in specific pain management and in rehabilitation after an injury. So I started to look for a chiropractic center looking for a full-time Massage Therapist. Low and behold, my mom informed me that Dr. Will was looking for such a person. The rest is history!
I’ve loved being able to work side-by-side with a chiropractor. It’s really where my heart is. Seeing our patients progress so smoothly with the complimentary care of chiropractic and massage therapy has been amazing. It’s a challenge with every new patient because no one’s body is exactly the same and no one’s condition is the exact same. So I get excited to come up with the best plan of care for that individual. It’s so rewarding to witness first-hand, their physical, mental, and even emotional progression. My passion is to care for people by giving them the opportunity to better their quality of life by working directly with their personal condition and by treating them with the utmost care and respect.
